You can't beat a crock pot or slow cooker barbecue pork ribs recipe to really get that tender fall off the bone texture, it's almost as good as the real thing!
The temperature that a slow cooker operates at is perfect for ribs. With the lid securely on a small pressure will build up allowing the ribs to cook low and slow in a super humid environment. Ideal cooking for tenderness!
As with all slow cooking of raw meat you won't get the same flavour from the meat as if you'd cooked and caramelised it. In another crock pot barbecue ribs recipe I've cooked the ribs in the oven for 30 minutes prior to putting them in the slow cooker but in this recipe I'm cooking straight from raw because I'm adding a spice mix for additional flavour.
The spice mix that I'm using is not technically "barbecue" but because it's for ribs maybe you'll forgive me. It's gentle on the spice and for those of you with a sweet tooth, deliciously fruity with a hint of umamai to finish.
As always the real secret is in the barbecue sauce so if this one really is too sweet then I've got a shed load of other
homemade barbecue sauce recipes just waiting round the corner for you.

Just as with preparing ribs for smoking you need to go through the same process for the slow cooker so with the bone side facing up, place your ribs on a board and remove the membrane from the back of the ribs.
Place the pork ribs in the slow cooker with the meat side of the ribs facing up (you may need to cut your rib racks in half dependent on the shape of your slow cooker pot).
Mix all the other ingredients together and pour over the ribs making sure you've covered all the ribs then set your slow cooker to low, put on the lid and in 8 or 10 hours time there's a feast ready.
The lid of the slow cooker is superb at keeping moisture in the pot and there's a lot of sauce with this slow cooker barbecue pork ribs recipe so you shouldn't have any problems with debris sticking to the pot. If however you do then use the cleaning tips below.
TIP - When cleaning your crock pot use hot soapy water and a nylon scrubber. Never use a brillo because you'll scratch the surface of the pot. Stains can be removed by cooking water and white vinegar on the "high" setting for around two hours.
